Lisa Lorenz

Lisa (nee Lariviere) Lorenz was born in Montreal, Canada and has been drawing and painting exuberantly since childhood and her talent has expanded over many years. She studied graphic design and advertising at Concordia University and then pursued a career with a major railway for 9 years. She met her husband and then moved abroad with him in 1996.

Since then she has been living overseas for over 10 years and has lived in Basel, Switzerland, Seoul, Korea and now resides in Copenhagen, Denmark by the Sea which she loves. While living overseas she started painting and took several painting classes, having her first solo Exhibition in Seoul in May 2003 selling most of her work. She is currently working towards her next exhibition.

Lisa is a colourist, she uses bold and expressive colours to create exuberant, vibrant and cheerful paintings, and her spontaneous, yet well-executed, placement of images and whimsical ideas invoke in us a sense of well-being and a smile. Her work hangs in private collections in Australia, Asia, Europe and North America.

Artist Statement:

Since early childhood I have always been interested in drawing and art. I could not get enough of coloured pencils, crayons, paints and paper.

During a successful career, I got married to my wonderful husband and best friend and moved overseas. Living abroad for such a long time, has given me the opportunity once again to discover my artistic side. I am often lonesome for my family and close friends and I find comfort in my painting.

I have travelled extensively and I feel very blessed to have been given this wonderful opportunity. Travelling has opened my eyes to so many interesting and memorable places that words cannot express. Painting my impressions is my way of remembering and sharing such colourful memories.

My paintings are very colorful and exuberant like my character. Vibrantly and cheerfully is the way I paint and the way I live. I am fascinated by the colour and beauty surrounding us and I love to paint such subjects flamboyantly adding a little colour and happiness into our lives.

I work mainly with acrylics which I love for their versatility, drying time and easy cleaning. My subject matter covers a varied range of subjects, all indicative of the many places and aspects of life I find intriguing. I am inspired and love to paint memories from our travels across Europe, and deep in my heart is always its beauty: the Italian Riviera, Tuscany, colourful city-landscapes, the majestic sea with its boats and harbours, which are full of imagery and romance. When I paint, I relive the wonders of my travels!

I am inspired by expressionism and fauvism where colour and shapes are the most important aspect. I very much admire and I am influenced by the great works of Gauguin, Van Gogh, Matisse, Vlaminck, and Derain.

At the moment, I am quite busy preparing for another exhibition in Copenhagen.
